Induction? How to make good coffee with a Moka pot.

Induzione? Come preparare un buon caffè con la Moka.

In Italy, when we talk about coffee, we talk about a real ritual, a sort of preparation that is almost iconic for millions of families.

The Bialetti moka pot (now also known as the Moka Induction), an iconic Italian coffee maker, is a symbol of tradition and the fine taste of coffee. Making coffee with a moka pot, therefore, isn't just a process, but almost a dance that requires attention and dedication.

These are the tips that more or less we all know.

  • Cleaning: Wash the moka pot after each use with hot water, avoiding aggressive detergents.
  • New Moka Pot : For new moka pots, prepare the first few coffees "empty" to eliminate any processing residues.
  • Gasket: Replace the gasket regularly to ensure a perfect seal.

But how do you really make good coffee?

  1. Never wash the coffee maker with detergent: The moka pot is made of aluminum, a material that tends to absorb and subsequently release substances into the liquids it comes into contact with.
  2. Leaving the coffee in the moka pot : For the same reason that it is not advisable to clean the moka pot with soaps and detergents, similarly, leaving the coffee overnight inside the coffee pot will cause the aluminum to begin to release the aromas of the coffee that it has previously absorbed.
  3. Don't use high heat : It may seem strange, but induction is more than suitable for making good Italian coffee . Cooking must be controlled, and the induction hob allows you to manage the heat through the digital display. For good coffee, the optimal level should be between 7 and 8.
  4. Don't let the coffee boil in the moka pot: When the coffee comes out, some people keep the heat on until the pot is full. In reality, water generally boils at 100°C (212°F), with varying boiling times (in the mountains, boiling times are shorter). Once the coffee has reached halfway through the pot, it's good practice to reduce the heat until it's completely turned off, letting the moka pot do its work with the water vapor.

By following these tips and experimenting with different blends and techniques, you'll finally be able to make flawless moka pot coffee, rich in aroma and flavor, that will make every day more special. With a little passion and dedication, your moka pot will become your indispensable ally for consistently perfect coffee, just like at the bar!

By the way, the well-known Bialetti company has gone one step further: it created the Bialetti Induction, precisely to perfect cooking without the need for adapters.
